What is Tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide is a once-weekly injection that activates the GIP and GLP-1 receptors. It is the active ingredient in the brand-name medicine Zepbound.2

It lowers body weight by reducing how much you eat, likely through its effect on appetite, and it slows how quickly the stomach empties.2

If prescribed, your medication is compounded for you by a US-licensed Section 503A compounding pharmacy. Compounded tirzepatide is not Zepbound and is not FDA-approved.

What the research found

  • 20.9% average weight loss at 72 weeks on the 15 mg dose in SURMOUNT-11
  • Injected once a week2
  • Lowers how much you eat, likely by reducing appetite2

Results may vary. These trials studied brand-name medicine, not compounded versions.
