AST Interpretation by Decade of Life: Normal Range, Optimal Levels, and What Your Number Really Means
A decade-by-decade clinical guide to AST (aspartate aminotransferase) interpretation, covering normal ranges, optimal targets, the AST/ALT ratio, and when to act on an abnormal result.
AST Nutrition and Fasting Impact: What Your Liver Enzyme Is Really Telling You
How diet, fasting, and exercise affect AST levels, what the optimal AST range is, and when elevated readings signal true liver stress versus normal physiological variation.
AST Test - Normal Range 10-40 U/L and What It Means
AST measures liver, muscle, and heart stress via blood draw. Normal adult range is 10-40 U/L. See when doctors order it and how to read your results.
AST: How to Interpret Your Result
Learn what your AST blood test result means, what normal ranges look like, and when elevated or low levels signal a problem worth investigating with your doctor.

Elevated Liver Enzymes: Initial Workup Beyond AST
AASLD-style workup for elevated liver enzymes: ALT for AST/ALT ratio, GGT, ALP, bilirubin, albumin, plus CBC, PT/INR, and hepatitis panel when indicated.
How Long Do Liver Enzymes Stay Elevated After Exercise
AST can rise 2 to 5x normal after intense training and usually returns to baseline within 72 hours. Learn the AST/ALT ratio that separates muscle from liver causes.
How to Lower AST Levels: Steps That Actually Work
High AST often comes from fatty liver, alcohol, or drugs. Losing 7-10% body weight and stopping alcohol are the most effective ways to bring it down.
Is It Better to Have an Optimal AST Level?
Optimal AST is 15-26 U/L, tighter than the standard 10-40 U/L range, and may flag tissue stress earlier. See how ALT and the AST/ALT ratio affect meaning.
