Worth knowing
- Tirzepatide's half-life is about 5 days, which is why it is a once-weekly injection.[1]
- If you rely on birth control pills, the label advises switching to a non-oral method or adding a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.[1]
- In SURMOUNT-1, -2 and -3, 18.2% on tirzepatide and 24.3% on placebo moved to a more severe depression-symptom score.[2]
- Suicidal thoughts were reported by 0.6% in both groups; people with known major psychiatric illness were not included.[2]
Do not wait for the next visit
- Thoughts of suicide or self-harm, for either of you: call or text 988 in the US, any time, day or night.[3]
- Vomiting or diarrhea that stops fluids staying down: dehydration can harm the kidneys.[1]
To raise together at the next visit
- Could a drop in interest in sex be linked to a recent dose increase, or should other causes be checked?
- Is nausea around shared meals a reason to wait longer before the next increase?
- Does the injection day we chose make sense, and how should we change it if we need to?
- Which mood changes should prompt a call between visits?
- Would a counselor who knows weight-loss medicines help us?
