Wegovy exercise week: sessions, fueling and injection-day log

Note your dose step and where each session falls in the injection week, what you ate before training and how you felt. Over two or three injection cycles the log shows your own pattern, which this page says is more reliable than a fixed rule.

What the trials and label actually say

  • In most Wegovy weight trials, everyone was counselled toward a 500 kcal a day deficit and at least 150 minutes of activity a week.[1]
  • In the intensive-therapy trial, activity started at 100 minutes a week and rose to 200; at week 68 weight fell 16% on Wegovy and 5.7% on placebo.[1]
  • Pooled trials put lean mass at 35.2% of the weight lost on semaglutide, and 17.5% in lifestyle programs that added resistance training (different trials, not a direct comparison).[2]
  • In the heart-outcomes trial, Wegovy was added to standard care that included individual lifestyle counselling on diet and physical activity.[1]

Review at the end of each dose step

  • Number of resistance sessions this step, against the agreed target
  • Protein at most meals, even on low-appetite days
  • Fluids before and during longer sessions
  • Any session cut short by dizziness, chest pain or unusual breathlessness
  • Days after injection when training felt hardest
  • Weight, and body composition if it is being measured
  • Questions for the next visit

Tell your healthcare provider

  • Heart racing or pounding in your chest that lasts for several minutes: tell your healthcare provider.[1]
  • On insulin or a sulfonylurea for type 2 diabetes: Wegovy raises the risk of low blood sugar, so ask how to recognize and treat it before harder sessions.[1]
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea that does not go away: tell your healthcare provider right away, because fluid loss can cause kidney problems.[1]
