What studies of stopping dulaglutide found
- Korean shortage cohort, 69 adults on metformin: average HbA1c went from 7.0% to 8.1% and fasting glucose from 129 to 156 mg/dL within 3 months of stopping (an observational study).[1]
- In that cohort, HbA1c rose 1.5 points with no replacement and 1.1 points with a DPP-4 or an SGLT2 inhibitor alone.[1]
- SKIP trial, in adults quitting smoking: after 12 weeks of dulaglutide 1.5 mg, weight gain caught up with placebo by week 52 (median +2.8 kg against +3.1 kg).[2]
- SKIP authors: no adverse events related to dulaglutide occurred after discontinuation.[2]
- Trulicity label: the elimination half-life of dulaglutide is about 5 days.[3]
Call your healthcare provider right away
- Severe pain in your stomach area that will not go away, with or without nausea or vomiting (the Trulicity Medication Guide's pancreatitis warning).[3]
- Pain in the upper stomach, fever, yellowing of skin or eyes, or clay-colored stools (the Medication Guide's gallbladder warning).[3]
Before or at the follow-up visit
- Which fasting glucose readings should make me call before my next visit?
- Do I need a replacement medicine, and when should it start?
- Should my insulin or sulfonylurea dose change now that Trulicity is stopped?
- If I restart later, what dose would I go back to?
