Before calling it a plateau

  • Every injection was 7 days apart, not 8 to 11
  • No dose was missed or skipped in the weeks you are judging
  • Same scale, same time of day, similar clothing
  • No new medicine that can add weight (ask a pharmacist to check your list)
  • Eating, sleep and activity have not changed much
  • You have been on this dose for at least 4 weeks

What the label and the SURMOUNT-1 analyses say

  • Dose increases go up in 2.5 mg steps, after at least 4 weeks on the current dose; 15 mg once weekly is the maximum.[1]
  • If a maintenance dose is not tolerated, the label says a lower maintenance dose can be considered.[1]
  • In the trial analysis a plateau meant under 5% change across 12 weeks and every later 12 weeks; the median came at 24.3 to 36.1 weeks depending on starting BMI.[2]
  • Of participants who had lost under 5% by week 12, 70% reached 5% by week 24 and 90% by week 72.[3]

For your prescriber

  1. Is my current dose a maintenance dose, or a step on the way up?
  2. Has my weight stopped falling, or is it falling more slowly?
  3. Is the next 2.5 mg step an option now, and what would make you wait?
  4. Could one of my other medicines be working against the weight loss?
  5. If I am already at 15 mg, what is the plan for keeping the weight I have lost?
