What the evidence and label say
- Wegovy slows stomach emptying and may change how tablets are absorbed; for medicines with a narrow therapeutic index or that need monitoring, the label says to consider extra clinical or lab checks.[1]
- Wegovy is not used if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma, if you have MEN 2, or after a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide or its ingredients.[1]
- In the adult weight-reduction trials, severe stomach side effects were reported in 4.1% on Wegovy injection and 0.9% on placebo.[1]
- In a US records study of people with Crohn's disease and type 2 diabetes, GLP-1 drug use was linked with fewer IBD surgeries over 3 years; intravenous steroid use did not differ.[2]
- In a small 8-week placebo-controlled trial, liraglutide did not significantly change psoriasis severity.[3]
Get help now
- Severe stomach pain that will not go away, with or without vomiting: stop Wegovy and call your healthcare provider right away.[1]
- Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea that does not go away: tell your healthcare provider right away, because fluid loss can harm the kidneys.[1]
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, severe rash, or trouble breathing or swallowing: stop Wegovy and get medical help right away.[1]
For the specialist visit
- Which of my symptoms would you treat as a flare even if I have just started Wegovy?
- Does any tablet I take need a blood test or level check while my Wegovy dose goes up?
- Should my disease activity be re-scored at a set point after starting?
- If a flare needs steroids, does anything change with Wegovy?
